O’QUIGLEY DESIGN
As a ceramic artist I create whimsical pieces that blend functionality with a sense of joy. I strive to create pieces that do more than just bring a smile to your face, but also make you think. With a background in graphic design, I approach ceramics with a unique perspective, using underglaze and pattern to add depth and character to my creations.
My work includes kitchenware (cups, plates, bowls, spoons), vases and sculptures. In my ceramic practice, I employ a blend of techniques to create my pieces. I work with both hand-built and wheel-thrown bases, allowing me to explore different forms and textures. Once the base is formed, I carefully decorate each piece by hand, bringing out their individual personality.
My journey as a ceramic artist began by taking ceramics classes at the local community college. Seeking to deepen my skills, I joined a small local ceramic studio in Half Moon Bay where I still work today.
My work has been showcased and sold at various events and venues, including The Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival (Made on the Coast), where I’ve been a regular participant. I’ve also been a part of the Montara Art and Music Festival, as well as the San Mateo Recreation Center Sale.
In addition to these fairs, my artwork has been exhibited and sold at The Coastal Art Gallery, and my pieces have also graced the shelves of Fishwife Sweets, adding a touch of whimsy to their charming space.
I consider myself incredibly lucky to be a ceramic artist, working in a medium that allows me to express my creativity and bring joy to others. My pieces are both functional and whimsical, designed to evoke smiles and spark contemplation.
