NOMADIC CERAMICS
Nomadic Ceramics is the business I never wanted, that was probably always going to be. I watched my dad run his business and obnoxiously proclaimed I would “never everrrr ruin my life like that”. Yes, he still likes to remind me. Instead, I ran around the world flitting from one job to another, until I needed just one credit to graduate. Everywhere I’d gone I’d been drawn to the pottery so I chose a throwing class to fully appreciate it. Three days in my new life was set in stone – after years of failing I’d finally found something that could quiet my mind, and you better believe I was going to build my life around it.
Finding a way to pass on that sense of stillness I found at the wheel is the inspiration behind my work. Since I’ve only achieved that feeling elsewhere in nature I draw a lot from my time outside. I took a year to formulate a glaze palette that could recreate that sense of calm from afar, with interesting enough textures and color variations to keep you excited up close. You’ll find occasional touches of gold or scenes from nature for a bit of fun, or maybe even a vintage decal – when I can convince myself to part with them.
I honestly just love every part of this job (minus anything that involves a computer or the IRS). I get to spend all day making something that’s as beautiful as it is useful. And then I get to go out and meet amazing people who also appreciate that life’s every day, utilitarian objects can be special too. Meeting y’all makes all the computer stuff worth it, and trust me, that is saying something.
