Maker SpotlightThe Loome is one of our favorite DIY Makers! We love how their tools inspire everyone to make things with their hands and create something beautiful and unique!
Where did your business name come from? Is there an interesting history behind it?
Loome is a new fiber craft invention. It’s an all-in-one tool for pom poms, tassels, friendship bracelet, small weave, cords and…slingshot. It’s a modern take on the traditional loom tool.
When/Why did you start working in this particular craft/field?
I just started but art and crafts have always been a part of my life since growing up in Thailand.
What do you think sets your designs apart from others?
A practical, useful invention that looks modern and made of wood.
Have you had any major failures? If so, what were some important insights gained?
Yes. What I’ve learned is always do the best and help people around you.
What has been your proudest/favorite moment since creating your business?
Meeting people at fairs and seeing the business organically grow.
How does the city you live in influence your work?
I live in NYC and travel to nature quite often. The contrasts are always inspiring.
What valuable experience/knowledge did you have before starting your business?
Managing a team and making sales goals – both are so helpful.
What made you take this leap into being your own boss?
What are some inspirations for your work?
I’m an Instagram addict, so seeing all the creativity and collaboration out there is just amazing.
What are some tips or suggestions you’d like to offer to fellow makers?
Stay the course. It’s easy sometimes to be distracted especially when you’re growing a business but I realize, staying focused on your vision helps (less chaos and shifts!).
