Demetria Chappo

DCCeramics_SpiritEyeDishes_gpmandalaWith our Brooklyn Mini Market coming up in a few weeks we are so excited to feature some of our Brooklyn Makers!  If you’ve seen our Mini Market e-flyer, then you’ve seen Demetria Chappo’s beautiful ceramics.  We are so excited Demetria Chappo is joining us again in Brooklyn for our first ever Mini Market!

Discovering her love for ceramics almost a decade ago, Demetria has been crafting exquisitely detailed and beautiful pieces in her studio, by the Columbia Waterfront near Red Hook, Brooklyn.  This serene waterscape can be seen in the palette, textures and shapes in Demetria’s creations.

Demetria creates sculptures and wall hangings, functional home and garden objects, and accessories.  Her pieces feel organic and earthy, yet the textures and patterns nod to architectural influences.  Demetria has found the process of painting and carving the patterns to be incredibly addictive and meditative, that it becomes difficult to stop.  This focus,  attention to detail, and passion for her work is clearly visible in every object she shapes.  Needless to say, Demetria Chappo’s skilled hands create truly unique pieces of art fit for anyone’s home.

Demetria’s iconic “DemeEyes” are one of the pieces that have drawn fans to her work.  This series contains finely painted graphic motifs, sacred geometry, lunar cycles and sgraffito patterns: “the process of painting and etching away to reveal a pattern as the clay body emerges.”  The “spirit eye,” featured in these pieces is a reference to Demetria’s Greek heritage.  We absolutely love the whimsical touch these DemeEyes add to our tabletops and walls.

Recently, Demetria joined West Elm’s lineup of local handmade talent at their Chelsea location.  We are so excited that her work will gain even more followers and fans!
